In-person and virtual ketamine sessions, medical evaluations, and support for healthcare professionals & groups.

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is a regularly utilized treatment modality in psychiatric/mental health care. It is used as a tool to help address various mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

Differently Well utilizes ketamine, which has extensive evidence for safe and effective treatment. Ketamine is utilized with focused integration practices to relax habitual thinking patterns, update the nervous system, improve motivation, increase joy, and enhance the ability to manage emotions constructively.

Safety

Ketamine therapy is regulated and should only be administered by a licensed healthcare professional in a clinical setting or with the necessary support and safety equipment available. Safety protocols and guidelines are followed to minimize risks and to ensure the well-being of the client undergoing treatment. It is important to note that ketamine therapy is a specialized treatment approach that requires careful consideration, thorough assessment, and ongoing support to maximize its potential benefits for mental health conditions.

Ketamine opens the door. Therapy helps you walk through it.

Ketamine prescribing services are done in partnership with Stonegrove Mental Health Group, a specialized mental health practice with locations in Newport, KY and Cincinnati, Ohio. All treatment sessions will happen at one of the Stonegrove locations, and the highly trained Stonegrove KAP therapists will join us in your healing journey. To learn more, click the link below.

The Ketamine Experience

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic that has been used in medical settings since its FDA approval in 1970. At lower, subanesthetic doses, it has been studied for its rapid antidepressant effects, particularly in people with treatment-resistant depression. Some patients experience improvement within hours or days, although response and duration of benefit vary.

Ketamine acts primarily by blocking NMDA receptors within the brain’s glutamate system, which plays an important role in mood, learning, and memory. Its downstream effects may support neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to form and strengthen connections. Researchers are continuing to investigate how these effects contribute to symptom improvement.

During treatment, patients may experience temporary changes in sensory perception, awareness of their body, or their sense of time. These effects, known as dissociation, may include vivid imagery, emotional experiences, or a sense of detachment from familiar thoughts and surroundings.

A comprehensive medical evaluation includes review of symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, current medications, and potential contraindications. Treatment requires appropriate monitoring because ketamine can cause sedation, dizziness, nausea, elevated blood pressure, and, less commonly, serious complications. When combined with psychotherapy, preparation and integration sessions help patients process their experiences and apply insights to daily life.

Ketamine’s use for psychiatric conditions is off-label and is distinct from esketamine nasal spray (Spravato), which has specific FDA-approved indications. Treatment recommendations are individualized based on clinical needs, potential benefits, and risks.

Clarity Backed by Expertise

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) is an intensive psychotherapy that helps clients to access their core feelings and to rewire emotional memories. Differently Well is not an infusion clinic. Ketamine may be administered via lozenge or by injection and is accompanied by mental health support to help clients access their deepest feelings.

What is KAP (ketamine-assisted psychotherapy)?

1

The time it takes to see effects from ketamine treatments can vary depending on the individual and the specific condition being treated. Generally, some clients may notice improvements in symptoms within a few hours after their first treatment, particularly for depression or anxiety.

In many cases, the effects can be felt shortly after the session, with some patients reporting a significant reduction in depressive symptoms and anxiety within 24 hours. However, for others, it might take several sessions to achieve noticeable results. The treatment regimen often involves multiple episodes of medication administration over the course of several weeks, and your specific treatment plan will be tailored to you.

It's important to consult with a healthcare provider to understand what to expect based on your specific situation and treatment plan, as ketamine treatment can be very different for everyone.

How long will it take until I see progress?

2

There is no single average total duration because people who respond may continue maintenance “booster” treatments every few weeks or months, whereas others may find just a few sessions to have the effect they desire. The schedule depends on the condition, treatment route, response, side effects, and clinician’s plan.

Do I have to do KAP therapy in addition to the medicine sessions?

4

In almost every case, I partner with the highly trained KAP therapists of Stonegrove Mental Health Group. If you have your own trained KAP therapist already, I may still be a good fit for you, but I do require consultation with them in order to best support you. Medicine is powerful and opens the door, but I believe that therapy helps you walk through that door, and is a crucial part of Ketamine treatment.
